What you’ll also see from this model (from the perspective of a market researcher practitioner) is a clear lineage back to my understanding of qualitative and quantitative which goes back all the way to my training at BJM Market Research.
Finally, whilst I think of it, something I didn’t have time for yesterday is another framework I use called ‘moments of enlightenment’. I’ve recently written a newsletter about it too.
It structures a way of thinking about where information is coming from, where it’s going, and to what end in an organisational or team context. Sometimes the job is to expand the filters we all have on what kind of information gets through at each stage, and retaining our senses once we put something new out into the world.
There is also a way of applying this framework to helping people think about what a Large Language Model (LLM) actually is, and is doing, in a work context.
If I think back to the Zenko Map, this gives us a way of framing an LLM as a preposterously large quantitative study, but delivered to users through a qualitative interface in the form of a chatbot.
