Do The Next Right Thing, Smashing Conference, Freiburg, September 2024
I was invited to give a talk on Zenko Mapping by Vitaly Friedman and his brilliant, lovely crew from Smashing. As the audience was largely made up of seasoned practitioners, I thought I would create a talk about the more granular details of Zenko Mapping, though trying not to lose some of the big picture stuff that helps people grasp the transformational opportunities they can find within it.
As a result, it is (I think) the most practical talk I’ve given in years, helped greatly by using the Zenko Mapping framework to reference other design processes and events that fellow speakers were touching on. I am really pleased with it, and the new worksheet version I put together for etc conference too.

I’ve made various versions of the Zenko Mapping worksheet over the years, but for Smashing Conference made this new version with a little bonus update – example questions to consider when working out which direction to take and border to cross.
