Here we go… 48 hours only on mobile

I wrote before about the experiment that Caroline asked me to do for Marketing; live for a 48 hour period exclusively on mobile devices.  No PC, no laptop, just me and the mobile world…

Well, I agreed, and JP over at O2 lent me an iPhone, and Ed at Yahoo (who’re sponsoring the whole mobile marketing supplement in Marketing that the piece will be part of) set me up on the beta for their new mobile platform.

When I left work on Friday, I left myself a little reminder of the task at hand…

Earlier today, I was getting a little worried about it; after all, most of the work I do is based on the ‘holy trinity’ of PowerPoint, Word or Excel.  Sure, you can read those documents on mobile devices, but it’s hard to create them.

Then when I thought about it, it wasn’t really ‘what I did’, just ‘what I did it with’.  The toolkit, as it were.  Like everyone who works in marketing (client, agency, whoever), what we really do is tell stories (to each other, and to the wider community).

So fittingly, perhaps, the story of my next few days will be the diary one I capture for Marketing on  mobile devices, and just how possible it is to work solely using them as a toolkit rather than involving big ol’ computers.

Some of which I’ll share with you here, some on Twitter, but first I thought I’d show the ‘before’ and ‘after’ of what I’m carrying.

If you click through on each link, it’ll take you into the realms of ‘What’s In My Bag?’, which is very possibly my favourite Flickr meme…

…once you’ve finished looking in my bag, use the whatsinmybag tag to get a guided tour of folks’ bags all over the world…

Right, the hour of midnight approaches… wish me luck…
